How to Analyze Home-Based-Business Models

When an individual first starts to think about jumping on the home-based-business bandwagon, there are typically many questions that need answering. Unfortunately, the source of information that presents itself is usually someone that is trying to recruit for his or her specific opportunity…not a particularly objective point of view.

There are three main types of business models to consider. First, the sale of products and the business opportunity to friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances, and even strangers. Second, there is the pure network marketing model that entails selling mostly services (and again, the business opportunity) to the same set of potential clients. Lastly, there is affiliate marketing, which revolves around advertising others’ products and services and receiving commissions.

While all three models are valid, and can result in enough income to substantially augment or even replace one’s current income, the activities involved in successfully implementing any of these models vary to a great degree.

The sale of physical products via network marketing or MLM, (multi-level marketing) has gained popularity over the last few years, especially with the advent of the Internet making the ordering of these products quick and easy. The problem that most people face when trying to start this type of business is that it relies heavily on traditional sales techniques - real-time, personal contact with prospects for both the product and the opportunity.

Most people are uncomfortable with trying to sell to people they know, and even more uncomfortable pitching their wares to strangers. Industry studies show that a little less than 3% of these businesses result in a viable income.

However, MLM has been around for a long time, and many large, well-known corporations are starting to see the benefits of using this model. What’s the advantage for them? Even at the low success rates, these companies realize large revenues at high margins from the sale of their products to their distributors, because most require a minimum order rate to be eligible for the discounts that allow the business owner to make a profit.

Many of these companies even make a profit from the start-up and annual distributor fees charged - especially when less than 3% are actually using the services provided on a regular basis. The other 97% end up with inventory that will never be resold, which is either consumed by the business owner or discarded.

The pure network marketing model is similar to the sale of products in that it involves selling to the same set of prospects…friends, family, etc. The difference is that there is no physical product involved, usually a service that gives the consumer/client access to information that they desire in order to achieve certain goals. This business model is one that basically feeds on itself, and is very popular with people that are interested in self-help and motivational materials.

Affiliate marketing is simply signing up with companies (for free) to direct internet traffic to a sales website. When a sale occurs, the person responsible for pointing the purchaser to the site receives a commission. Internet technology makes it easy to track where the buyer came from and pay the originating source the proper fee for the referral.

This business model is gaining ground in the home-based-business arena, because it doesn’t require the entrepreneur to embrace and practice the traditional sales techniques that make most people uncomfortable. It does, however, oblige the business owner to know (or learn) effective internet advertising methods. The big advantage in this business model for the entrepreneur is that it requires very little capital expenditure to start and maintain. The primary investment for this type of business is time and effort.

When a potential home-based-business owner is evaluating the various opportunities available, he or she should be realistic about what they are willing to do in order to achieve success. All three business models discussed here are legitimate ways to make money, and all will require getting out of one’s comfort zone to some degree. The decision about which business model is best depends entirely on the individual.

The key is to make sure that all of the questions are answered by someone you trust before investing…and of course, to have faith in your ability to succeed!

How to Overcome Network Marketing Paralysis

Will Rogers said, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”

This is true for all aspects of your life, but especially in your online business. The problem is that there are so many things to learn, so many things to do to get the ball rolling, that it is easy to become overwhelmed. People get so paralyzed by confusion about what they should and in what order that they end up doing nothing at all.

There is a popular mantra used by Network Marketers: “It’s simple, but it’s not easy.” This may seem like a contradiction, but what it means is that the methods you need to use to get your business going are not rocket science…but getting started and gaining momentum can be difficult.

I have my own mantra that has served me well over the years. “It takes less energy to change direction than to overcome inertia.” I don’t remember enough about my high school physics class to know if that’s strictly true, but from a motivational perspective, I can tell you that it works. The trick is to quit thinking about doing, and just start doing.

Whatever business you’re in will require you to do things you’ve never done before…create an advertising campaign, write articles, build a website, etc. The list of new things you will have to learn to do can take on the appearance of an invincible monster. The best way to defeat the monster is to start taking action.

Begin with something that looks relatively easy, even if it’s completely outside your realm of experience. Get comfortable with it, gain a little proficiency, and move on to the next thing. You don’t have to be the world’s greatest at any one of these methods to be a success in your online business; you just need to do them consistently.

You’ll find two things to be true as you start to make progress. First, as you begin to learn new things, your mind will become used to processing new information and the next course of action you take will become easier. Second, you’ll gain confidence that you can accomplish things that seemed formidable when you started out, which will in turn add to your momentum.

You also need to realize that not everything you do is going to bring immediate results…so don’t get discouraged, and don’t sit back and wait for things to start happening. When you’re confident that you’re doing something moderately well, keep doing it and take the next step. Complacency and procrastination will kill a start-up business before it even has a chance to take root and begin growing.

So get on the right track, and keep moving! Don’t let the train run you over!

MLM Training - Help! I’ve Burned My Warm Market, Where Do I Go From Here?

So you signed up in your MLM business, made a list of 200 names and called each of them and told them why you were excited about your new business. And before you knew it you burned through the list and didn’t have much success. Unfortunately, this is a very common situation in network marketing, but it doesn’t need to be this way. With the RIGHT MLM training you can achieve MLM success even when you’re just starting out. Here’s how I taught 56,000 people in my downline to have success with their warm market prospects.

This question came to me via the Brilliant Exchange home page:

I seem to have burned through my “Warm market” and am not good at just walking up to random strangers, I don’t have the money to buy cold prospects, how can I add affiliates to my organization?

This is an excellent question - because it’s common. I won’t answer it the way many people would expect me to answer it, or would want me to answer it. But I will answer it truthfully.

The short answer is: If a person is not confident in their ability to prospect, they will find ways to stop themselves from prospecting.

I will not win a popularity contest for my answer, but if you look this over thoroughly you’ll see that in order for you to achieve mlm success it’s the truth.

So let’s go back through the question and let me point out something.

“I seemed to have burned through my warm market.” This is perhaps where the LACK of confidence in ability exposed itself. If a person sees that what they did didn’t yield any result or even worse might have caused some damage or strain on those warm market relationships, then the person might decide they’re not good at walking up and talking to strangers.

They might also conclude that selling their TV and canceling their subscription to cable so they have the money to buy leads would probably be a waste of a good TV.

A person very confident in their ability to prospect wouldn’t think twice about CREATING the money to buy leads, buy newspaper advertisements, send out post cards to their local zip code, etc. So where the person who asked this question said, “I don’t have the money” they were really saying, “I don’t have confidence to create the money.”

How could someone create the money? That is limitless. Personally, I sold a gun collection I had and cancelled my karate membership. A person could sell all their winter clothes, cancel subscriptions that don’t make them money, go into their garage and/or storage unit and sell everything they haven’t used in the past year.

Am I suggesting everyone do this? NO! I’m suggesting that everyone master the ability to talk to prospects because as long as you don’t have confidence you will continually create reasons why the business doesn’t and won’t work. Developing confidence in your ability to talk to anyone is key to your mlm success.

I just received a similar question from one of my downline, here was the question, with my response:

From: Downline

Sent: Monday, May 29

To: Tim Sales

Subject: Learning before doing

When I get someone started they learn skills (Professional Inviter) and then we begin to promote.
The problem I find is that my distributors are going to wait until they learn Professional Inviter perfectly before starting the business (it can take a few weeks).

Would you change that?
___________________________
Tim’s response:

What’s the alternative? Do - before learning?

The solution to this problem is to reduce the time it takes to learn Professional Inviter. Also, a person can’t learn Professional Inviter “perfectly” without actually calling prospects. So you shouldn’t wait weeks to start inviting.

The solution is not: let them “burn their warm market!” Because then they will be very creative in how they “can’t find any prospects after that.”

Truly, achieving MLM success really boils down to something I say near the end of the Brilliant Compensation DVD: “Just get the “hard” out of the way. Confront what you’re not good at and get good at it.”

So the answer to this person’s question is really: LEARN TO INVITE WELL.

MLM Training - How To Get A Fresh Start In Your MLM Business

For whatever reason you got off track with your MLM Business, but you really love your product or service and have a huge desire to achieve MLM success. How do you put the past behind you and start fresh? Achieving success on the second, third, even fourth try is always possible! Here’s a highly effective MLM training tip that will help you get back on the fast track.

Frank sent in this question: Tim, how do I start over? Should I try to reactivate my old downline or just move on?

Throughout my life I have set many goals. But I’ve recently realized that I’ve been doing something that is not healthy. Here’s what I’ve been doing:

I set a goal, and then there seems to ALWAYS be a fork in the road very near the original goal. On one side of that fork is an immediate success; on the other side of that fork is an immediate failure.

If immediately after deciding on a goal I have immediate success, then I determine BECAUSE I HAVE PROOF that I am good at it and I will continue on and do well and achieve that goal. However, if I have an immediate failure then I determine BECAUSE I HAVE PROOF that I’m not good at it and will continue on and fail at achieving that goal.

Let me give you an example: As a boy, my goal was to play baseball. The pitcher throws a baseball and whether by luck or by practice I manage to hit the ball. I now have an observable “proof” that I successfully hit the ball. I then determine that I’m good at it and will continue on with the thoughts in my head that I’m good at it - normally that leads to success.

However, on the other side of that fork, if when that baseball is thrown I miss the ball and strike out, I then determine (by observing the proof) that I’m not good at it. However, since I’m not a “quitter” I continue playing baseball but I do so with the thoughts in my head that I’m not really good at it.

So I’ve been using the initial success or failure to determine if I’m really going to succeed at my goal or not! But in reality, what does that have to do with it? Nothing!! Because just prior to that success/failure I determined that I wanted to play baseball - that is the only thing that matters! The unhealthy thing that I’ve been doing is - forwarding the observable - as if THAT is the most important thing.

Here’s how my analogy of playing baseball turns into a great MLM training lesson: I feel many people in network marketing are - forwarding the observable - that they’ve not had immediate success - therefore they continue to fail at it.

When people start network marketing they will very often “test” if they’re good or not - and then DECIDE IF THEY’RE GOOD BASED ON THE IMMEDIATE “PROOF.” This in my opinion only leads to failure.

The correct approach would be that they DECIDE TO SUCCEED IN NETWORK MARKETING. PERIOD. The most healthy thing to do is to disregard the “proof” because the proof isn’t the goal!! It’s just evidence that you need better MLM training or more practice.

So with that thought in mind, let me answer Frank’s question. Frank, the way you start over is to go back to your original goal and start THAT over - but don’t carry your failure with you. Really start new. When you start new think in terms of what you need to get good at.

In baseball, there are three broad subjects one must get good at: throwing the ball, catching the ball and hitting the ball. In network marketing there are also three broad subjects one must get good at: inviting, presenting and training.

The things that you “fail” at are not failures at all - they are simply identification points of where you need to improve your MLM training. If in playing baseball I strike out, I can determine that I’m not good at baseball or I can use that as an identification point of an area I need to improve at - which is hitting the baseball.

There is a tool called Pocket Tracker that I created to determine the “identification points” in the activity of network marketing. It is a list in sequence of what I and you need to do every day. If you can’t get past - let’s say step 4 in the sequence - that identifies the specific area you need to improve on. Keep doing that step until you can do it well and can consistently get through the whole sequence.

So that was step one of starting over - which is really getting YOU started over. Step two is to decide whether you want to try to reactivate your old downline or not. Whether you can succeed at “resurrecting the dead” or not is dependent on everything I’ve written above - FOR EACH PERSON.

Everyone who is no longer active in your downline has simply determined that they’re not good at it. Before you contact them, I would recommend that you make sure you’ve fixed whatever it was about your training that caused people to fail. You can succeed at bringing some of them back in - but you can only do so by offering something new to them. I recommend that “something new” be MLM training that really works.

Summary of how to start over:

1. Create a new goal for your network marketing business. Not just mentally or on paper - but REALLY start new. DROP THE PAST. If you really dropped the past you would not have fear of contacting prospects.

2. Identify the specific area(s) you need to get good at by following the step by step sequence as given in Pocket Tracker.

3. Once you have gotten good at each area of the business, contact those people who are no longer active and do the Inviting Formula (see steps below) with them to determine what they need/want. This will be slightly different than a prospecting call because now you need to find out what they need/want as it pertains to training.

4. Deliver to them what they need to succeed. By doing so, you will succeed.

In conclusion the most important part of your mlm training, whether you are just getting started in the business or if you are starting over, is to master the steps of the Inviting Formula as outlined below. If you’ve not mastered this formula then you will not be an effective coach to your downline as you will be teaching what you can not do. If you can’t do inviting successfully, who will you be teaching inviting to? You can’t have a downline if you can’t invite well! So, please master the Inviting Formula - I promise you this is the most important MLM training you can master!

Inviting Formula:

1. Greet prospect.

2. Qualify - find out what they need/want or don’t want.

3. Invite them to look at something that will help them achieve step 2.

4. Handle any questions or objections.

5. Close to action.

6. Follow up/follow through.

Do You Want to Start a MLM Business?

You need to begin by asking yourself a question. Why do to you want to start a MLM business? Maybe it is because you want to be like others who have already have done this and is bring in the kind of money you can only dream about.

If you put in enough sweat, you can make a considerable amount of money every single week once your MLM has started and is soon on its feet.

Just think, you can even start a MLM business from home. Most of us go to work each day, working in an offices, stores, or factories. For most of us our options are limited for the ability to do our jobs from home.

There are some individuals, still, who have the luxury of being able to stay home while they earn their livings. Some jobs can be accomplished at home in the same expanse of time as anywhere else and with the same results. Not too often though is this the case.

When considering whether to start an MLM business, you need to first take a good look at yourself. Decide what best will fulfill your needs and see in what areas you will be more productive.

You must determine your needs and reasons before you start an MLM business to see if it will be right for you. Do you know what your goal are?. How much income do you really want to make? Do you want to work full or part-time? Will you nee any special training before you begin? What will be your initial financial outlay? A lot of questions need to be answered before venturing out into the world of MLM marketing.

Today, MLM marketing is huge business. There are large multinational establishment doing business as MLM. Chances are you are considering being a distributor of such a company. Many offer excellent products and services to help start an MLM business and get it on its feet.

The financial requirement to start an MLM business is commonly quite low. Most of these companies you can start for less than $300. Beware of companies that require you to invest huge sums of money and to carry inventory.

The best MLM companies do not have such requirements. Usually they have no inventory requirements at all, as they ship the product for you from their distribution centers directly to your distributors or customers

They also will pay you commission on sales you generate thru customers and your downline. That is by people that you have sponsored into the MLM company. The more you sponsor, and the more customers you have, the more commission you will get.

Since most MLM products are used around the home such as soap and antibacterial cleaner, every person you talk to is a potential customer or distributor. The idea to start an MLM business, and the easy ability to do so, will change your life forever.

Top 10 Myths About Network Marketing (MLM)

I can’t believe it. I’ve talked to many, many people who are afraid to make a decision to go into network marketing. They’ve heard stories and rumors. Instead of investigating and coming to their own conclusions, they believe all of what they hear.

They rather work two or three jobs and never see their kids or their spouse than to do a little digging, a little research and find out the truth about network marketing-the thing that could change their financial destiny and allow them to live their dreams. Here are the top myths that stifle people’s dreams.

1.They’re all pyramid schemes.
A pyramid scheme is just a money game. There’s no real product or service. You make money basically by signing up people-which is illegal. A legitimate company supplies a real viable product or service to the marketplace.

2.Only those that get in early make money.
I don’t see how this makes any logical sense. If a company is legitimate, then it shouldn’t matter when you get in, because you can still make money. However, if a company only exists to scam as many people as possible before going out of business, then I could see this myth making sense in that regard.

3.You must go door to door peddling products.
Back in the early Amway days, before computers and the technology we have today, the only way to sell products was door to door. Remember Avon, Kirby vacuum cleaners and the Fuller Brush man? In the technology age, door to door selling becomes a thing of the past, unless you want to work harder and not smarter.

4.You have to recruit your friends.
When network marketing (mlm) first started, recruiting friends into your opportunity was the norm due to convenience. It didn’t take much effort or any marketing skill to do so. The result sometimes ended in massive failures and estranged friendships. There are people who still solely teach this marketing method. In this day and age, it’s not a necessity to resort to this technique, because many people all over the world want to work from home and actively seek opportunities to do so. Those are the ones you want to seek out for your business.

5.You have to buy a lot of product.
Some companies’ compensation plans do require a lot of stocking or front loading of products in order to earn your full commissions. Keep in mind that this type of compensation plan is designed for people who are good at retailing a lot of products. You usually make higher commissions in this type of plan. There are many companies out there that do not have such heavy requirements. Read the policies and procedures and the compensation plan before you join a company.

6.There are a lot of “fly by night” companies.
Companies go out of business for various reasons. That’s why it’s important to choose a company that is at least two years old. It reduces your risk of it going under with your time, effort and money invested in it.

7.You have to be outgoing or the “salesman” type to make money.
So many people nowadays are turned of by the “salesman” type of approach. People respond better to people who are sincere, real, and friendly.

8.You have to invest a large amount of money to get started.
Many companies exist where you can get started on a shoestring budget. Network Marketing has all the benefits of having a franchise, but without all the hassles of having employees and high overhead costs. Network marketing is a cost effective way to start a business.

9.You have to recruit your family.
In the early days of network marketing and even now, some people think that they’ve got to get their family into their business and on their products and services. They feel their family has an obligation to be involved in some aspect of their business. That’s how they show support-right? Wrong.

This type of thinking and marketing “technique” can be counterproductive. A lot of times when people approach their family about their opportunity or product they get “shot” down by them. I can’t believe you’re selling that! Or I can’t believe you fell for that! After hearing the negative comments over and over again, you begin to think that there’s something wrong with you. Recruiting your family can be the worse thing to do, especially when there are more qualified people looking for an opportunity or your product.

10.They’re all get rich quick schemes.
Network marketing can make you wealthy in a shorter amount of time, than working a job. That is for sure. So, yes, you can acquire wealth in a short amount of time with a legitimate company, however it is not overnight and can take a few years depending on your desire, learning curve and marketing budget.

Do your research until you’re satisfied with the results. Knowledge is potential power, but taking action will get you the results that you want. By learning the truth about network marketing, you can now go on and achieve the wealth and lifestyle you’ve always dreamed of.

Home Based Business-Online Internet Web Marketing is a Must!

You finally got a beautiful website. You’re in business now-or so you think. But there is a problem. No one is buying anything; worse yet, no one is even going to your website! What’s missing is an effective marketing plan.

You see without marketing, nothing gets sold. You have to plan a way to get your product to the end consumers-on a massive scale. One way to achieve this in network marketing is by recruiting others to help you build a sales force. The next question is: how do you find people to recruit? You could rely on old school network marketing gimmicks, like the three foot rule. You will you waste a lot of time and maybe recruit a few people with this technique. Your best bet is to turn to online internet web marketing to maximize your time and find people who are looking for you.

With so many network marketing companies these days providing replicated websites to their distributors, you would think that most would at least offer them a course or two in traffic generation. Some companies do, but sadly most don’t. That leaves a lot of people, especially the newbie, out in the cold wondering why no one is showing up at their website. Why bother handing out a tool, if you’re not going to show people how to use it? Maybe I’m expecting too much from these companies, or am I?

Now you can junk all the Internet web marketing stuff if you plan on building your business by buying leads or by resorting to the “old school” style of network marketing. But you must keep in mind, there will be those you bring into your business who do not want to buy massive lists of leads and call them. For it is these types of people who will make up the majority of the people you bring into your business. Most of these people cannot or will not follow your duplicative plan. These people will undoubtedly drop out of your business sooner or later. Those are the ones you want to reach out to early on with another method of marketing that may be more in their comfort zone. This will help you combat your attrition (drop-out) rate.

Online internet web marketing is also a must for the person who is starting a home business from scratch. It ceases to amaze me when I frequent the work at home forums and watch people who post, look at my pretty website, it took me ten months to do it. How do I get people there? They’ve spent all this time making their site gorgeous, and did not spend one iota on learning how to drive traffic to their site.

In the case of network marketing, you can point the figure at companies giving people tools i.e. websites and not showing them how to bring traffic to it. In this case however, the average Joe Blow just never picked up a business 101 book and read the chapter on marketing. Frustration sets in because they spent all this time making a lovely website and paying their hosting fees and now they have to go back and learn what they should’ve learned before they built their website. Live and learn of course.

Understanding and applying Internet marketing doesn’t have to be hard or complicated especially if you have a system or tool to help you learn it. In the case of network marketing, the learning curve can be quite short because you are working within people’s comfort zone (usually) and not forcing them to do things they do not feel comfortable doing as in the case of calling lots of strangers from lead lists.

If you want long term success in your home business, you have to be both a leader and a teacher. Learn all the ways to market your business and find a system to help you do so. In the network marketing case, your downline will stick around longer. They will think twice about leaving when you’ve showed them many ways to be profitable. You will become invaluable as an upline to them. You will change the course of your business forever by just learning a few marketing techniques and passing them on to your future business builders. For long-term longevity in your home based business, online web marketing is a must.

You’re losing out in the Internet game, if you don’t have a system for marketing your business! Your journey begins here: Network Marketing Success
