All fruits are healthy to the human body in specific ways. A combination of fruits in your diet can help to keep you healthy, and cure certain diseases as well. There is a huge variety of fruits that can help you, including apples, apricots, bananas, blueberries, cantaloupe, cranberries, figs, grapefruit, grapes, kiwi fruit, lemon/limes and oranges. Cantaloupe is full of plenty of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate, potassium and fiber. Research studies have shown that beta-carotene is particularly helpful at fighting cancers that originate in the lungs but more recent studies have shown that it is also worthwhile for fighting other types of cancers such as cancer of the cervix, uterine cancer, stomach cancer and oral forms of cancers. Evidence also supports that vitamin C decreases the incidence of mouth cancers, throat cancers, pancreatic cancer and stomach cancer.

Figs are beneficial to health and that is the case regardless of whether you choose to eat figs fresh or in their dried form. Figs have plenty of vitamin C, fiber, magnesium and potassium in them. Figs contain a type of fruit fiber that is able to decrease blood pressure, and in particular, systolic blood pressure, which is the top number of the blood pressure reading which in turn, calculates the pressure of the contractions of the heart. Fiber in general is connected to decreasing the bottom number of the blood pressure equation, which is the diastolic blood pressure. The diastolic blood pressure stands for the pressure of the heart when it is resting between its contracting action.

What are Polysaccharides?

Polysaccharides are a form of carbohydrates. This is a complex form. Monosaccharides join together and create the polysaccharides. Glycosidic bonds are the binding force between the monosaccharides.

Polysaccharides have distinctive features. As it is made of monosaccharides, so they are very big in size. They are also branched. They are generally insoluble in water, not sweet and are amorphous.

Polysaccharides may be homopolysaccharides and heteroploysaccharides. When the monosaccharides that constitute the polysaccharide, are of same type, then it is called as homopolysaccharide and when they are different the resulting polysaccharide is called as heteropolysaccharide.

A general formula that denotes Polysaccharide is Cn (H2O)n where it may be 200 to 2500. Generally 10 or more monosaccharides make a polysaccharide. Polysaccharides are carbohydrates which have high molecular weight. They break down to monosaccharides when hydrolysis happens.

There is a specific type of polysaccharide present, known as acidic polysaccharide, which has in it carboxyl groups, phosphate group, and sulfuric aster groups.

Polysaccharides can be branched or it may be linear. Polysaccharides may be of two types if divided based on their function. Some polysaccharides store energy. Some other polysaccharides build the cells by helping the structural components.

Some of the well known polysaccharides are starch, glycogen, cellulose, chitin etc. Starch, glycogen, and cellulose are the three most common polysaccharides. Glucose units make up Starch. Starch is insoluble in water. Glycogen is found in animals. It is storage from of glucose. Cellulose is found in plants. They make up most of the plant parts. Some polysaccharides are available in bacteria which make their capsule.

In animals and plants, the energy storages are different. In animals, starch is the polysaccharide that stores energy. Also, glycogen stores the energy in animals. Starch is a homopolysaccharide. Starch is found in two different forms. One is amylopectin and the other is a-amylose. Amylopectin consist of a-glucose. A- Amylose consists of glucose. It is a linear chain polymer. Both of these are broken down by amylase enzyme.

Glycogen is another polysaccharide that is found in the animals. It is mostly available in the liver and the skeletal muscle. This is the energy storage for them. It is made of a-glucose. It has more non-reducing ends than the amylopectin. Glycogen is to be broken down for use which is done by glycogen phosphorylase.

In case of structural polysaccharides, cellulose and chitin is the main. Cellulose makes up the plant cell wall. It is said to be the most abundant natural polymer. It is available in the wood and cotton. It is a linear polysaccharide. It is composed of glucose. It has so much of strength because of the inverted glucose molecule and the hydrogen bonds that is formed by the individual cellulose strand. Most of the animals are not able to digest cellulose because of the absence of cellulose degrading enzymes.

Chitin consists of N-acetylglucosamine. It makes up exoskeletons of insects, spiders etc. It also makes the cell wall of fungi. It is the second most abundant polysaccharide.

Science has found that organisms that carry disease, such as mosquitos, prefer an acidic environment. It is easiest to think of it this way: acidic attracts disease, while alkaline protects health.

Our body acidity or alkalinity predicts our environment. Just like a swamp or a field of fressh flowers it can either harbor disease or flourish. Although it is debatable, many experts believe that disease cannot live in an alkaline environment, yet it thrives and grows in an acidic environment.

Again, it is debatable, but I do believe that your body functions best when it is in an alkaline state because until two years ago, I was someone who used to be out of shape and overweight. I was not following a healthy natural diet and I was not exercising. I felt awful and got sick all the time.

I got the flu or the common cold six to ten times a year. I was depressed and had little to no energy. Since discovering the difference between alkaline and acid body chemistry I have made an active effort to make my body healthier and more alkaline.

Since then I rarely have gotten sick, I have more energy, and have had more tolerance to exercise. Most importantly I have been able to maintain the proper body weight, which is something I have always battled with.

Well how did I get my body more alkaline? I ate more organic fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I made sure that I cut down on the acidic influences in my diet: red meat, dairy products, pasta sauce, coffee, alcohol, processed foods (fast food), deep fried foods, and chemical pollutants (pesticides, hormones etc.).

If you would like to find out your body’s acid/alkaline chemistry go to your local health food store. They should have pH test strips you can buy that test your saliva. They are cheap, easy, accurate, and the roles of the strips allow you to test yourself many times. I test myself once a month or so.

If your body is acidic and you would like to try to make it more alkaline to see if you notice a difference in your overall health, you should maintain a dietary ratio of 75% alkaline to 25% acidic, this is what worked for me. Also exercise, or sweat a lot, this is your body’s natural way of getting rid of toxic chemicals and pollutants that can make your body acidic.

It should also be noted that one way the body naturally protects against really high acidic levels is by using calcium as a natural buffer. If your body is highly acidic and you are not getting enough calcium through your diet or supplements your body will naturally pull calcium from your teeth, bones, to buffer the acidity. This is not good because it can make your bones and teeth brittle.

Some people’s bodies are naturally more acidic or alkaline than others. You may or may not be able to get away with eating more acidic foods than other people. Always remember that everybody is different and you need to be as educated as you can on YOUR body and what makes YOU feel good and healthy.

Pay attention to how often you get sick in relation to certain foods, or toxins you are putting into your body. Make an active effort to test yourself and put good healthy food and supplements into your body, you will feel healthier.
