Targets Used In Hunting

Many hunters are skilled at hitting any type of target because they practiced hitting them when they were young. The materials for the targets might have changed but the hunters were happy nonetheless to have them. In groups of three or four, the neighborhood boys would hurry to meet in a pasture and have fun tying some red and white paper targets to the sides of some trees.
When each hunter in the group shot at their targets, they thought a lot about the animal they were pretending to hunt. They wanted to make the target center seem more real, and the group would yell quite loudly whenever one of the boys would hit their mark by putting a bullet in the center. If one hunter needed more instruction on hitting the center, there were always the other hunters in the group that could help them.
Over the years, the hunters came to the realization that it was not necessary for them to participate in any type of target practice. After giving it careful thought as they sat in a blind one day, they all decided that they actually had all the targets that they needed in the woods around them. The challenge of hitting those targets had not changed though.
One of the hunters still had trouble hitting a target while hunting in the woods. They justified their lack of accuracy to the fact that the targets they were hunting had the ability to move, bend and hide from the hunters and that the group never practiced hitting targets like that. There is always one in a group that does not do like they are told and this hunter never fantasized about the paper targets being as real as the one that would be hunted.
The only type of target that the group of hunters did not count on was the type of targets that were small and stood about a foot or more off the ground. Early on, they had visions that the game they were hunting were black bear and elk and some deer or a elk. They had never fantasized about putting a bullet through a turkey or any other fowl that ran on the ground.
These hunters sat in the blind over a weekend and talked their target strategies out. They decided the game that they preferred to hunt and the target areas on the body that would be hit. They talked about feathers and the talk slowed until the one who never listened asked if anyone had heard a sound.
Sure as you please, the hunters gazed through the blind and right outside was a turkey nesting just as pretty as you please. For the rest of the night the hunters talked softer and discussed who was going to carry the buzzard out of the woods after they decided that he would be killed at midnight in a target practice session that was shot in the dark.
