Review of ASUS G73JH-A2 from Newegg after 1 Month

**UPDATE ON MAY 31, 2010** I could go on forever about the good stuff this laptop has to offer, but we already know those. It’s fast, the screen resolution is awesome. You can’t go wrong with 8GB of RAM. The GPU is the best on the market (for now)… 480M coming soon of course. Needless to say, I’m still in love with the laptop and it does everything I need it to. ******************************* People have been wanting a review of this unit, and I finally did one. I forgot to say at the end of the video that my conclusion about this laptop is it’s near perfect if you’re wanting a 17″ model. Leave comments if you’re wanting to know something specific about the laptop and I’ll try to make another review compilation with answers. Recorded on my cell phone, so the quality isn’t great – but the information is there. :)

Has there been any sort of fix for the keyboard issue since this video?
I used to have a G50v with several keyboard issues. :(

  • Sivan08:

Omg! all i hear are negative comments…where are the positive comments?? STUPID REVIEW

  • tmdennie:

    @Sivan08 I’m not a fucking salesman.

What else beside the hard drive and RAM are upgradeable? what is the boot up time from the original hard drive? Can is there a way to upgrade to have an internal blue ray burner? have you used Adobe premier on it if so how well dose it handle it how quickly dose it render HD video? any fed back would be great :) soory if there are simple questions or just plan stupid :)

  • SilentSnipest:

@freddizaa Problem with the Alienware is the hardware is a bit overpriced and is forcibly packed with large amounts of it. That is why expected lives of Alienwares are low : /

  • subongkosh:

haha complain and negative seems you not happy HAHAHA well dont like it then sell it or something

  • HDFATBOY55:

@vespers119 there is a site called BTOTECH.COM where you could upgrade all the components on this asus. Check it out. By the time you upgrade it your in the Alienware price range. This laptop has been out for a year and it hasn’t dropped a dime. I don’t see where it is worth the money. Screw Asus.

  • HDFATBOY55:

    @vespers119 It sucks……

  • DanielNeedles:

Great nits in combination of other reviews. One area I am interested is there a way to extend the battery life? Also if you are not gaming or watching a DVD just doing email, word, etc does the battery last longer?

  • tinagirl15:

I don’t intend to be rude but I have to agree that all I hear is negative comments. Nothing good at all except I did see the price if you get the pre configured version which is high specs – but missing 3 main options. no ESATA,PCI SLOT or I Forgot one more option people do want….. The price is excellent but is it worth it missing out on the 3 main extras and basic looks. Nothing fancy. I personally wouldn’t mind if it were at least in white maybe. 2/3 options .Sound is loud!! TY 4 Review.

  • tinagirl15:

Ran out of space. I do appreciate your review and I had no intention of sounding rude at all. I appreciated hearing what I needed to.Thank You :)
It seems if you want high specs and a basic unit this is probably for you. I was all excited until I saw it was missing 3 important options for me .Plus a little nicer loook and yes everything does show up.the white little dirt specs, etc… I do like a great sound card. Not possible I guess. I watched this review to see if this model was better 4 me.

  • chenj001:

Couldn’t you clean the speakers with some pressurized air?

  • lrossi888:

@chenj001 I got some dust and stuff in my grille. I just used the microfiber cloth that came with it and it’s like it sucked it right up. Kinda weird.
The keyboard issue can be resolved with the 209 BIOS.

  • ratormaherikotaischi:

I got that shiftlag on my Toshiba Satellite P300-167, but that’s not a chicklet (chiclet?) keyboard. I jsut think it’s that gamers are too fast to type so that the keyboard ain’t calibrated for those of us who are 1337. :P Maybe try slow keys or something like that.

  • superbrah415:

shit review. if all you were going to say were negative “Nitpickey” things, you should have made the video name, “Problems with laptop”. the point of a review is to weigh the pros and cons, not just state the cons.

  • MonkeyCMonkeyDo77:

Would you recommend cleaning the speakers with a can of compressed air?

  • NuarStanger:

    Great review man.
Finally someone that points out all the flaws. Well little things :P
We all know how badass this machine is and all its strong points. Thank you for showing the little negatives. To me they are very tiny things and I will pick one of these up this week :)

  • tmdennie:

@MonkeyCMonkeyDo77 Tried that along with a shop-vac. Haven’t tried the masking tape though, as recommended in the comments.

  • lmuzik1:

Thank you so much for the review and for pointing out the flaws…no matter how minor. I truly appreciate it since I am recovering from a nightmare experience with Dell and their horrible XPS 1645!! Considering the Asus G73JH and your comments were very very helpful to me.

  • Abiic07:

@tmdennie Hey Man, can you recommend me what model of G73Jh would I buy… In terms of Performance, Specs and Price.. I really love this laptop, but i just cant decide.. Thanks

  • tmdennie:

@Abiic07 Hey there, If you’re just wanting it for gaming and don’t need a ton of storage, a backpack, or mouse, I would recommend the Best Buy model G73JH-RBBX05 (SKU: 9741729)… very few games (or even programs) will utilize all 8GB of RAM in the A1 and A2 models, so the RBBX05 model (with 6GB) would be fine. You’ll still have the Radeon 5870 and a 16:9 screen.

  • tmdennie:

@lmuzik1 Thanks lmuzik. Glad I could help you.

  • filiwian:

The issue with the keyboard, does it become a hassle when you’re playing games? And is it frequent when you’re typing or just sometimes.

  • tmdennie:

Hi filiwian, it’s no problem whatsoever while gaming. Just when typing an e-mail or something where capitalization matters.
